Shutdown paralyses normal life in IIOJK

Srinagar, February 09: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, normal life was paralyzed due to complete shutdown on the occasion of the eighth martyrdom anniversary of martyred Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru, today.

 Former Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) and Senior Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for observing complete shutter down strike on 9th and 11th February on the martyrdom anniversaries of Shaheed Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru.

Syed Ali Geelani said that Shaheed Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru have become the sign of freedom struggle and continuity of the historic struggle and where both martyrs are the representatives of the two generations of the Kashmiris, they are also shining example of vigor of sacrifice and struggle of Kashmrisi nation.

He said that the martyrdom of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru is clear proof of Indian judicial system’s hypocrisy and professional dishonesty. Syed Ali Shah Geelani said that the way while violating all the norms of justice, Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru were hanged is a black blot which has been fixed permanently on the face of Indian judiciary.

 All shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the road.

Thousands of personnel of Indian army, police and paramilitary forces are patrolling the deserted streets in the valley to prevent pro-freedom and anti-India protests.

India had hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt in the same jail on 11th February, 1984. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail.

Meanwhile, police arrested several youth including a woman during house raids and cordon and search operations in Srinagar, Shopian and other areas of the territory.
