COVID cases spike in IIOJK as 47 new deaths reported

Srinagar, May 03 : Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the highest ever spike in Covid deaths and positive cases ever since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

As many as 47 people died of the Covid while 3,832 persons were recorded infected with the coronavirus. Thirty deaths were reported in Jammu and 17 in Kashmir including 18 in Jammu district and 10 in Srinagar district. Of the rest, three deaths were reported in Poonch, two each deaths in Baramulla, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, one each in Budgam, Kupwara, Islamabad, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Doda, Reasi and Ramban.

The official Covid bulletin said that the new cases included 2601 from Kashmir and 1231 from Jammu region.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir faces complete ‘Corona curfew every weekend in all 20 districts from 7 p.m. each Friday till 7a.m. each Monday even as closure of educational institutions has been extended by May 31.

On the other hand, the unavailability of Covishield vaccines in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is distressing those seeking the jab.

Youth leader in Jammu Partap Singh Jamwal said that the administration is turning a blind eye towards black marketing of oximeters, which are in demand due to surge in corona cases.
