South Kashmir : Encounter breaks out in Shopian village

Shopian: A gunfight broke out between mujahideen and the Indian occupational forces in Bandpawa area of Chitragam tehsil in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

An Indian official told News agency. that a joint team of occupational Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation based on a specific information about the presence of mujahideen in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding mujahideen fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. Meanwhile, sources said that two to three mujahideen are believed to be trapped in the area.

Pertinently, this is the second encounter in south Kashmir in a day as another encounter is underway in Pampore area of Pulwama district where one mujahid has been martyred and two more are believed to be trapped
