SRINAGAR, Sep 09 : Former Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) and Senior Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that the recent attempts to remove Urdu from the public sphere are therefore a cultural onslaught against Kashmiri Muslims.

In a twitter post, Syed Ali Shah Geelani said that we are duty bound to defeat these evil designs by keeping the language alive and ensuring it’s use in all spheres of everyday life.

He said that Urdu is not merely a language. For Muslims in the sub continent, it has acted as a repository and a guardian of religious knowledge for centuries, he added.

“The recent attempts to remove Urdu from the public sphere are therefore a cultural onslaught against Kashmiri Muslims. We are duty bound to defeat these evil designs by keeping the languag alive and ensuring it’s use in all spheres of everyday life” Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

“Urdu is not merely a language. For Muslims in the sub continent, it has acted as a repository and a guardian of religious knowledge for centuries” Syed Ali Geelani said in another tweet.
