Hizbul Mujahideen Jammu and Kashmir

Formed in 1990, Hizbul Mujahideen is the largest and indigenous Freedom Fighter organisation operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Master Ahsan Dar was its first chief .In June 1990, the Hizbul Mujahideen set up a Supreme Advisory Council, which is the final decision making body and they approved Hizbul Mujahideen ‘Constitution’.   Mohammed Yusuf Shah, popularly known as Syed Salahuddin, was appointed Patron. In 1991 Supreme Advisory Council replaced Master Ahsan Dar with Syed Salahuddin, who after becoming the Supreme Commander, re-organised the organisation. Syed Salahuddin is not an ordinary militant commander. He has been a vocal supporter of pro-freedom struggle through democratic means and a firm believer in people’s right to self determination.
Hizbul Mujahideen which derives its cadres and logistics locally and, in that, it is self-sufficient. Hizb activists are locally snatching and purchasing arms and ammunition from Indian forces and from Indian open markets. From 2016 onwards till September 2019.their fighters have snatched more than 100 rifles and other ammunition from Indian security forces. However it does encourage diplomatic, moral, and political solidarity from those who would recognise the legitimacy of their struggle for liberation.
Hizbul Mujahideen has maintained that Kashmir is not a border dispute or a territorial problem, but a political issue. According to the statements issued to the press and book written by Hizb command Council member Malik Abdullah, published by Hizb Media centre.

“Hizbul Mujahideen believes that the Indian leadership should recognise the ground realities, accept the internationally recognised Kashmir dispute as the source of all the troubles and demonstrate the political will to address it. Hizbul Mujahideen appeals the major powers of the world and other members of the international fraternity to use their good offices to convince India that use of force to curb a genuine movement for self-determination will be a self-destructive exercise. In case India sincerely creates congenial conditions and positive environment in the state, Hizbul Mujahideen will respond positively.”

As per official data given by Hizb Media Centre, Hizb claims that their seventeen(17) thousand fighters including eight operational commanders, dozens of divisional and other commanders   have got martyrdom while fighting with Indian armed forces from 1990 to Sep 2019.Hizb claims that more than twenty(20) thousand Indian force personnel’s were killed and double of this figure got injured. Among killed force personnel are, two major Generals, Deputy Inspector general, Deputy Inspector general, Director general of Jammu Kashmir police, Deputy Inspector general of Jammu and Kashmir police, and dozens of Brigadiers, Majors, Cols etc.Hizbul Mujahideen is still the largest indigenous ,most powerful and most popular armed resistant organization of Jammu and Kashmir.
