Gunfight in Downtown Srinagar; Internet Services Snapped- Latest Updates

Srinagar- A freedom fighter has beenmartyred and three occupational forces personnel killed including two from SOG, injured in the ongoing encounter between mujahideen and occupational forces in Nawakadal area of Downtown Srinagar. The encounter brokeout on the intervening night of May 18-19.
An Indian Police officer said that a mujahid has been martyred in an ongoing encounter, the identity of mujahid is yet to be ascertained as operation is still underway, according to sources.
The firing resumed this morning in Kani Mazar locality of Nawa Kadal after a lull of five hours, reports from the area said.
At least two mujahideen are believed to be trapped in the area. The operation is underway. “Firing resumed during search in the [Tuesday] morning and the operation continues,” J&K Police said.
The encounter began around 2 am and there was a lull in firing for about five hours after that. A fresh contact was established with the mujahideen around 8 am, an occupational police spokesman said.
He said mobile internet and mobile telephone services, except on BSNL postpaid, have been snapped in the city as a precautionary measure.
This is the first encounter in Srinagar city after August 5, 2019.
